Ponca City has never been shy about personality. From our elaborate Italian Revival Marland Mansion to our beautiful priceless art collections at the Ponca City Library, our community has always offered visitors more than a place to pass through. We like to go big, it's sort of our style. So, it's only fitting that our local short-term rentals don't feel like copy-and-paste hotel rooms. They feel like little worlds, all their own.
Around 2018, the first wave of Airbnbs in and around Ponca City began popping up as locals started restoring homes, renovating ranch properties, and reimagining older spaces for guests. I know, because I was one of them. Michael Mattera was the very first person in Ponca City to list rentals on the all-new, peer to peer rental platform Airbnb, and I was the second. When I listed my rental, there were three options. Many of those early listings leaned into a theme on purpose and practicality: small, quaint and cozy. The technology was new and untested, but the platform was quickly gaining steam. Today, if you run a search for Airbnb stays in Ponca City, you will find close to 80 listings, a massive increase over those early years.
And what's changed in those eight years, is the unique theming. Owners have worked hard to bring unique and adventurous decor to their local Airbnbs, in order to make their rentals stand out from the crowd. I thought this was a story worth telling, and I hope you enjoy it! Though we are featuring them in our magazine, these homes are within your grasp through your own quick search on the Airbnb website or mobile app.
Today, these unique, themed rentals help visitors settle in for everything from family get-togethers and sports weekends to hunting trips, lake days, and work travel. Some sit right in town, others are a short drive out. So whether you are looking for a place for your visiting relatives, or you are wanting a staycation right here in our own backyard, these unique rentals are worth showcasing, and are doing their part to bring in visitors and tourists in our lovely little city.
Below are photos and quick descriptions of some of Ponca City's most memorable themed Airbnbs. Find the vibe that fits your trip, and book via the Airbnb or VRBO apps.
