It’s officially October, which means Halloween is quickly approaching and kids are looking for something spooky to read. Good thing Rowley Jefferson has written some more spooky stories!
The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series is still super popular, and while the author continues to write those, he has also started writing about Rowley, Greg Heffley’s best friend. So, if you know a kid who loves the Wimpy Kid books, they are sure to love the Awesome Friendly Kid series too.
This book has 12 spooky stories written by Rowley himself that are sure to give kids a fright. Read stories about monstrous insects, a terrifying slumber party, a lost pinkie and a haunted house that might not be so haunted after all.
My favorite story was The Extra, which is about a young girl named Sylvia. She is the smartest kid at her school, she enjoys playing soccer and going to the movies with her friends. Oh, and she’s a zombie. While she isn’t a fan of zombie movies, she finds herself working as an extra in the background of one after going to college and graduating with a computer science degree. Soon after, she becomes a big star and gets roles in movies that aren’t about zombies. After making changes to her appearance, she stops getting offered movie roles, but it all turns out okay because she begins working in the special effects department to make computer-generated zombies look more realistic.
While most of the stories in this book are more silly than spooky, they are sure to get kids into the Halloween spirit.
