Walter Lee Hirschman, 82, of Perry, Oklahoma, passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
Walter was born in Perry, Oklahoma, and lived his entire life in the community he called home. He graduated from Perry High School and later attended the University of Central Oklahoma before joining the United States Army. While stationed in Taiwan, Walter met the love of his life, Nancy. The two were married in February 1971 and spent more than five decades building a life and family together.
Walter was the son of Leo and Pearl Hirschman, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Hirschman and grandson Kristoff Mathews Hirschman.
Walter was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for and supporting his family. He worked for Farmer’s Coop and later at Propane first. He was the kind of person who could fix, build, or figure out just about anything. He enjoyed woodworking, watching sports, and staying busy with projects around the house.
Faith was an important part of Walter’s life. He grew up attending Zion Lutheran Church with his parents and later became a member of Sumner Baptist Church, where he attended with Nancy and their children.
Walter was known for being friendly, hardworking, loving, and supportive. He was a devoted husband and a loving father who always put his family first. He taught his children the importance of working hard, taking care of one another, and putting family first. Those lessons and the love he gave his family will continue to live on through the generations.
Walter had a deep love for his Oklahoma Sooners and remained loyal to them no matter how hard his family tried to turn him into a Cowboy. Watching sports and cheering on his team was one of the many things that brought him joy.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Hirschman; his son, Jay Hirschman; family members Reno Mathews and Aimee Hirschman; his daughter, Christine Lake; and family members Joe Lake, Kenna Lake, Kira Lake, and Keely Lake. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and will forever cherish the memories, wisdom, and love he shared throughout his life.
Walter’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, September, 26th at 10:00 a.m. at Trout Funeral Home of Perry, 1408 N. Seventh Street, Perry, OK.
