Tom Startz

Tom C. Startz, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2026, after many courageous health battles. Born on May 22, 1943, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, Tom was the son of Thomas and Johnnie Startz and lived his early childhood days in Texas and California before settling in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Tom graduated from Chickasha High School in 1961, where he began to lay the foundation for a life characterized by dedication and achievement. He pursued higher education at Oklahoma University, earning a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1967. With a sharp mind and a keen eye for detail, Tom embarked on a distinguished career with Conoco, serving as an accountant in New York City, Houston, and Ponca City. He retired on July 1, 2001 after 34 years.

On June 4, 1973, he married Billie, beginning a wonderful partnership that spanned more than five decades.

Tom was a man of many passions. Known for his perfectionism, he enjoyed undertaking home projects, ensuring that everything was just as it should be. His love for travel brought him joy and broadened his horizons, while his love of following his granddaughter Abby's soccer career turned him into quite the soccer expert. His love for children was profound, and he was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren and neighborhood kids, playing, entertaining, and accompanying them on their little adventures, always patient and loving. Being "Pop" was his favorite role in life.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Billie, of the home; his daughter Brooke Williams and her husband Jeff of Ponca City; his son Kevin Startz and his wife Leslie of Edmond; and his brothers Steve Startz and his wife Ruth of Norman, and Glenn Startz of Calvin.

Tom was blessed with five grandchildren-Abby, Dylan (Olivia), Kirsi (Eli), Kyle (Heather), and Cole-as well as five great-grandchildren: Nora, Teddy, Ezra, Brooklyn, and Perry. He is also fondly remembered by his niece Kelly Ross and her daughters (Kassidy, Kameryn, Kensi, and Kalli), his nephews Greg and Tim Startz and their sons (Garrett and Colt).

Last, but certainly not least, Tom is survived by his affectionately opinionated cat, Max.

A come-and-go Celebration of Life will be held on October 17, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Harvest Hall, 201 N 2nd St. in Ponca City.
