T. Spencer Adams

Spencer Adams (aka Larry Adams) transitioned from this life on September 9, 2026. He proudly said he was a Ponca Citian by birth and by choice. Born in Ponca City on August 11,1948, he and his parents relocated to Los Angeles shortly after his first birthday. He grew up in L.A. Area about three miles from the beach and from the age of 8 frequently rode his bike to the beach by himself to spend the day. He made annual trips back to Ponca City with his parents to visit grandparents and relatives. He was the son of John Quicy Adams and grandson of Bob and Stella Adams of Larmont. His mother was Phyllis Blubaugh of Tonkawa, and his maternal grandparents were Ben and Vera Blubaugh.Adams graduated from U.C.L.A. In 1970 with a B.A. In Economics and began a 24-year career in banking with Security Pacific Bank of California. By 1972 he had come to feel that Los Angeles was simply too big and too crowded and made the decision to return to Oklahoma and small-town life. He resumed his banking career with Security Bank of Ponca City (1972-1976). First National Bank (1976-1980) and Pioneer Bank (1980-1994). Over the next twenty-two years Adams advanced from Head Teller to Executive V.P. and CFO. By 1994 Adams had grown tired of the banking business and the ever-increasing burden of government regulations and left banking to start his own property management company.Adams married Janice Ricks of Boise City, Oklahoma in 1976. They remained together for 18 years and have two sons, Kevin and Kyle. Adams was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his son Kevin Adams, daughter in-law Rufina and granddaughters Dasha and Mila of Walnut Creek, California. He is also survived by his son Kyle Adams and his grandson Alex of Ponca City, Oklahoma and his sister Linda Silvy of Ft. Collins, Colorado and her son Tyler Silvy of Santa Rosa, California.Spencer had many interests and often said, "Anyone who is bored, is not paying attention." He enjoyed reading, writing, riding motorcycles, playing poker and golf, taking trips and visiting with friends and relatives. For several years he held a private pilot's license. One of his greatest pleasures came after retirement. He purchased a cabin at Lake Ponca and was frequently out on the lake by 6:00 A.M. in his kayak. In 2007 he marked a major item off his "bucket-list" when, after a lifetime interest in politics, he wrote a book entitled "Man of the People" about a modern-day Will Rogers.Spencer wished to share his favorite quote with friends and relatives. He often repeated it to himself when he felt he was taking himself too seriously. " All of mankind is but a parade of fools and I'm happily walking in front twirling my baton."
