Russell Ray Groves, Jr.

October 13, 2026 – March 15, 1969

Russell Ray Groves, Jr.

Russell will be remembered as a very caring, respectful, and funny man whose presence brought warmth to those around him. He took special pride in being known as “The Doctor” by all his friends, a nickname that reflected the affection and familiarity he inspired. He also counted being a good person among the things that mattered most to him, and his love for animals was a lasting part of who he was.

He enjoyed the things that made life personal and meaningful to him, including Kansas City Chiefs football, rock and roll music, his cats, taking care of his mother, and Mountain Dew. He was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan, and his favorite song was “I Stand Alone” by Jackyl. His beloved cats, Alvine and Grey Beard, held a special place in his heart. Russell was also a proud organ donor, a final reflection of his generous spirit and concern for others.

Above all, Russell’s life was closely tied to the people he loved. He is survived by his mother, Kay Groves; his daughters, Rashell Ross and Hali Owings; his sisters, Karen, Cindy, and Lisa, two grandsons, and three granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Ray Groves Sr.

Russell Ray Groves, Jr. will be remembered with love for his caring heart, his devotion to family, his love of music and football, and the joy he found in the simple things that made him who he was. His memory will remain with all who knew and loved him.
