Margaret Ann Yeakley

Margaret Ann Yeakley Buck was called by her Lord to come home on June 8th in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 104.Margaret Ann was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, daughter of Anna and John Slaughter. She was always proud to be "an Okie from Muskogee". She finished high school there and then graduated from University of Oklahoma in 1943 with a degree in Commercial Education. She put this degree to good use in later years when she was a "career" substitute teacher in schools in Oklahoma City, OK. and in London, England. She would tell of substituting for the High School nurse on one occasion and another substitute experience was High School boys gym class.Margaret Ann married Charles C. Yeakley, Jr of Muskogee, OK on December 27, 1943. Their first home was in Corpus Christi, TX where Charles was a United States Naval flight instructor. She traveled with her husband to various stations during his duty. At one time they moved from the East Coast to the West Coast within a week. The surrender of Germany and the war still in the Pacific caused this to happen. Margaret Ann became a Conoco Oil Co. wife in 1948, living in Oklahoma City, Ponca City, OK and London England. She always loved to travel to overseas locations and living in London presented her an opportunity to do just that. Upon Charles death in 2000, she traveled to many countries and several continents. Her last cruise was up the coast of Norway, past the Arctic Circle and beyond. In March 2013, she married A. Lester Buck, Jr. The two had known each other since they were babies in the Nursery Dept. at First Baptist Church, Muskogee, OK. Their short marriage was full of talk about "what happened when and who was involved." They shared lifetime memories and it was a very special time for them as they relived their lives. Lester died in 2015.Margaret Ann was very active in her church wherever they were living. At Nichols Hills Baptist Church (later becoming Quail Springs Baptist Church) in Oklahoma City, she and Charles were Department Leaders of the Teenagers. She also taught a class of girls in that department. In London, she was active in the American Church in London, serving as a Deacon and was on several committees. Upon return to Ponca City, Oklahoma, she was a teacher of a women's class, active in Women's Missionary Society, on a church committee and various other activities. In San Antonio, Texas she belonged to Bible Study Fellowship. She has lived at The Towers in San Antonio, Texas since 2012. Although Oklahoma and Texas have always been arch-rivals (sports and more), she became an avid Spurs fan and was almost ready to claim Texas as home. But once and Okie, always an Okie.Margaret Ann was proceeded in death by two husbands, Charles C. Yeakley Jr and A. Lester Buck and her brother Capt. Jack Slaughter. She is survived by her four sons and their wives. Jim and Junko, Houston TX; David and Ginger, San Antonio, TX, Tom and Mary, Hurst, TX.
