Guy Anderson

Guy Raymond Anderson, age 92, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, entered into eternal rest on June 10, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Ponca City. Burial will immediately follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.

Born on September 21, 1933, in Pisgah Ridge, Texas, Guy was the third child born to Joseph Clyde and Jewell (Ellis) Anderson. Raised during the final years of the Great Depression, he grew up learning the value of hard work, sacrifice, and family. His childhood was spent on farms in rural Texas, where he witnessed both the hardships and blessings that shaped a generation.

Throughout his life, he remained deeply proud of his family's heritage and often shared stories of the Anderson family, preserving memories for future generations.

Guy graduated from Richland High School in 1951 and continued his education at Navarro Junior College before attending Sam Houston State College. He proudly served his country as a Private in the United States Army during the Korean War. His most significant duty assignment was as a Communications Chief for an Artillery battalion. This assignment was an experience that strengthened his sense of duty and commitment to others.

Following his military service, Guy began a career in the oil industry. After taking computer courses and working on seismic survey crews in Texas, he married the love of his life, Martha Jo (Gray), on March 3, 1962, in Roane, Texas. Together they began a journey that included numerous moves across the Midwest including Texas, South Dakota and Wyoming before settling in Ponca City in January 1967.

Guy spent more than two decades working with Continental Oil Company, where he processed seismic data and managed survey information essential to oil exploration efforts. Though the work was often demanding, he took great pride in doing it well and remained with the company until his retirement in 1989.

Never one to sit idle, Guy began a second career serving as Building and Custodial Supervisor at First Baptist Church in Ponca City. He faithfully served there until 1995, when he retired once again and devoted more time to one of his favorite pastimes-fishing.

Above all, Guy treasured his family. He and Martha shared over 53 years of marriage before her passing on June 22, 2015. Together they built a legacy of love, faith, and family that continues today through their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Guy is survived by his son, Guy Raymond Anderson Jr. and wife Kim; daughter Debora Gooch and husband Phil; son David Anderson and wife Dondi; daughter Patricia Box and husband Allen; sisters Marie Yazell and Reba Ann "Judy" Means; brother Willy Anderson; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha Jo Anderson; his parents, Joe C and Jewell Anderson; his brother, Joe D. Anderson; his sister, Cleta Joy Johnson and his granddaughter Kaila N. Box.

In reflecting on his life, Guy wrote of his gratitude for the many blessings God had given him-his health, his family, and the generations that followed him. His faith remained steadfast, and he often marveled at the goodness of God throughout his life's journey.

Guy will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, deep love for family, devotion to his faith, and the stories he faithfully preserved for those who would come after him.

His life was a testament to perseverance, gratitude, and the enduring power of family.

Guy's faith was an important part of his life and guided him in both service and fellowship.

Throughout the years, he faithfully served at First Baptist Church through Kindergarten Sunday School, Falls Creek, Tape Ministry, Church Choirs, and the Widows Ministry. He quietly lived out his faith by caring for others, including growing a garden and generously sharing its harvest with friends and neighbors. Whether through his church, his family, or his community, Guy found joy in serving others and making a difference in their lives.

"Oh, how God just keeps on blessing me."

These simple words, written by Guy himself, beautifully summarize a life well lived.

The family would like to take this time to thank the skilled nursing staff at the Ponca City Nursing and Rehab Center.
