Douglas Hanson passed away September 25, 2026. He was born January 13, 1955 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Edna and Al Hanson. Doug attended River Falls High School in Wisconsin, graduating in 1973. He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. Working summers at Andersen Windows in Bayport, Minnesota. Upon completion of a degree in Physics and Math he went on to obtain a PhD in Geophysics from The University of Wyoming in Laramie. He worked at ConocoPhillips in Ponca City, Oklahoma for 25 years and later worked remotely with Sigma Cubed in Houston, Texas.
In 1978 he married Barbara Krueger. They lived in River Falls, Wisconsin, Laramie, Wyoming, Denver, Colorado, and moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1984. Doug and Barb were blessed with 48 years of marriage and four daughters.
Doug was active practicing martial arts, especially Aikido. He was a 6th Dan, high level senior master black belt and a beloved Sensei to many. He ran marathons and enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He was an avid reader.
He loved his wife and his daughters and their husbands, his seven grandchildren and his great grandson. He also had a special place in his heart for all his nieces and nephews.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ponca City, where he served as an elder for several years. He loved to see all of the young families in church and hear the children and babies in service. He would also happily hold the babies when needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Edna Hanson, his sister, Helen Ahlborn, his brothers, Allan Hanson, Kenard Hanson, his sister-in-law, Teri Hanson, and his nephews, Timothy Ahlborn and Jed Hanson.
He is survived by his wife, Barb, and his daughters: Nicole Hanson and her husband Aaron Cawley; Candace Austin and her husband Drew; Colleen Springer and her husband Chris; and Heather Hanson. Doug leaves behind seven grandchildren, Eve Davenport (Aidan), Eileen Hinman (Ty), Lillia Springer, Easton Springer, Emma Austin, Hewitt Austin, Lola Cawley, and one great grandson, Sasha Davenport. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Marv Ahlborn, his sisters-in-law Sue Hanson and Judy Hanson, and brothers Rickey Hanson, Mark Hanson (Peggy), Craig Hanson (Lori), and Andre Hanson (Elizabeth), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Casket bearers will be Aaron Cawley, Chris Springer, Drew Austin, Easton Springer, Hewitt Austin, Aidan Davenport, and Ty Hinman.

Douglas will be remembered for the love he showed not only his family but everyone he encountered. He was kind and loving, and people he knew felt his support, generosity, and care. Doug is already greatly missed. He is resting with Jesus and his friends and family have many memories of Doug they will cherish until they meet again. He was a beloved husband, brother, father, and Papa.
Services are 10:00am, Thursday, October 1, 2026 at First Lutheran Church of Ponca City. Burial will follow at Longwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.
