Doris Sims

Doris Elaine Sims, 84, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Viewing will be between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm, Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Trout Funeral Home. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Trout Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601.

Doris Elaine Knox was born February 14, 1942, in Wichita Kansas, to Charles Robert Knox and Dorothy Russell Knox- Fairbanks. She was a graduate of the Class of 1960 from Po-Hi. She married her high school sweetheart on June 3, 1961, at First United Methodist Church in Ponca City Ok. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011.

Her work career began in 1960, at J.C. Penney's in downtown Ponca City followed by Dr. M.L. Mitchell D.D.S. She returned to the workforce in 1976, to CBT Constructors, Inc. and Personnel at Lincoln Elementary.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she held many positions on the administrative board and she very proud of serving as President of their United Methodist Women for 18 years.

"Maga" as she was known to all her grandchildren, loved her "babies" very much and they loved her in return.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Roy Don Sims, Mother Dorothy, Father Charles, Stepfather H.E. Fairbanks and brother Robert Knox and Stepbrother Maxx Fairbanks.

Survivors Include: Daughters Nancy Smith (Lonny Smith) and Jenni Legg (Mark Engleking) of Ponca City, Sister Charlotte Ann Knox Smith of Stillwater, Ok. Sister-in-law Linda Knox of Jenks Ok. Grandchildren Marcy Sober, Libby Long, Austin Legg (Kamree). Abbie Legg Sells (Riley) Luke Legg (Paige) Katie Irving (Tommy) And Josh Smith (Brandon Smith) Great grandchildren: Blaine Meyer, Tanner and Trevor Goodenough, Coleman Cash and Carter Long, Chancelor "Chance" Confer, Kayde, Kashton and Adilyn Legg, Hadlea and Tyler Legg, Cal Dean Sells, Wesley Logan And Peyton Irving. And Many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Austin Legg, Luke Legg, Riley Sells, Coleman Long, Cash Long and Carter Long.
